Kinesio taping in Zaporizhzhia
Kinesio taping is the application of an elastic tape that supports a muscle or joint without restricting movement. The tape is applied by a physical therapist in practice since 2012 — as part of a recovery program, after an assessment and testing. The first consultation takes about 60 minutes.
What kinesio tape is
Kinesio tape is an elastic adhesive strip that stretches roughly like skin. Unlike a rigid bandage or brace, it does not lock the joint in place: it gives a feeling of support while leaving full freedom of movement. The tape stays on for several days and keeps working at sessions, at home and in training.
When we use taping
- knee taping — support after ligament injuries or surgery, or when loading is painful;
- shoulder taping — a feeling of stability when movement comes with pain or discomfort;
- ankle after a sprain — extra support in daily life and sport;
- overworked back and neck muscles — gentle offloading between sessions;
- returning to training after an injury — keeping movement confident and controlled.
Being honest about tape
Tape is a supporting tool within a recovery program, not a treatment on its own. It does not remove the cause of pain and does not replace exercise: strength, mobility and control come back through the work you do at sessions. So we never tape "just in case" — we assess first and use tape when it genuinely adds support between visits: at home, at work or in training.
How the procedure goes
We start with an assessment: which muscle or joint needs support, and what kind — offloading, stability, or a reminder of the right movement pattern. That determines the shape of the strip, its tension and the direction of the application.
The skin should be clean and dry so the adhesive holds longer. We apply the tape and immediately check it in motion: the application should not pull, press or get in the way. Finally, we explain how long to wear the strip, how to handle it in the shower and how to remove it painlessly.
Most often taping is part of a physical therapy session: we work in the gym, apply the tape — and the support stays with you until the next visit.
Your first visit
The first meeting takes about 60 minutes: conversation and history, examination and testing, a recovery plan and your first exercises. Bring comfortable clothes, a change of shoes and any medical documents you have — scans, discharge summaries, doctors' reports.

Questions & answers
How long should I wear the tape?
Kinesio tape is usually worn for three to five days, then removed and reapplied if needed. The exact time depends on the area, your skin and the goal of the application — your therapist will tell you. If the edges start peeling earlier, that is normal: trim them with scissors or take the tape off.
Can I shower with the tape on?
Yes. The tape tolerates water, so you can shower and wash as usual. Afterwards, pat it dry with a towel — do not rub it or use a hot hair dryer. Avoid long soaking such as pools, hot baths and saunas: the adhesive holds worse and the tape needs changing sooner.
Does taping help on its own?
Honestly — no. Tape works as an addition to exercise, not a replacement for it. It can add a feeling of support and confidence in movement, but it does not remove the cause of pain or instability. That is why taping here is part of a physical therapy program, not a standalone service.
Can the adhesive irritate the skin?
Occasionally, yes: itching, redness or a rash may appear under the tape. If that happens, remove the tape — the symptoms usually settle on their own. Tell the therapist about sensitive skin or past reactions to adhesive plasters: we start with a small test strip to make sure your skin stays calm.
Which areas do you tape?
Most often the knee, shoulder, ankle, back and neck; less often the wrist, elbow or foot. The area and the type of application are decided after an assessment — it depends on which muscle or joint needs support. We do not apply tape over damaged, broken or irritated skin.
Can I train with the tape on?
Yes — that is exactly what it is for. The elastic tape does not restrict movement, so you can work, train and do your home exercises with it. If load is still off-limits after an injury or surgery, tape does not change that — your doctor and the recovery program set the boundaries.
