Alona Kaliuzhna, massage therapist in Zaporizhzhia
Alona Kaliuzhna is the massage therapist at Rehab Place in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. She holds a university medical degree (Zaporizhzhia State Medical University, 2017) and a diploma from the Massage and Healthcare Technologies School. She gives five types of massage — classic, therapeutic, sports, recovery and vacuum cupping — and every session is one-on-one.
Education and approach
Alona graduated from Zaporizhzhia State Medical University in 2017 with a master's degree with honours in Laboratory Diagnostics and the qualification of laboratory doctor. In 2025 she completed the Massage and Healthcare Technologies School.
Every session is one-on-one. Before starting, Alona asks what is bothering you, how you are feeling and whether you have any existing diagnoses: that decides which areas to work on and whether there are any contraindications. She adjusts the intensity to your feedback — the work can go deep, but never "through pain". A massage therapist does not diagnose and does not prescribe treatment: she works with muscle tension and helps you recover after physical strain.
Massage can be a stand-alone service or part of a recovery program with physical therapist Oleksandr Kaliuzhnyi. In the second case the two specialists coordinate their work: which areas are ready for massage, at what stage of the program, and how it fits in with the exercises.

The types of massage Alona gives
- Classic massage — work on the muscles of the whole body or a single area: stroking, rubbing, kneading; it relieves general tension and fatigue.
- Therapeutic massage — work with a specific goal: easing tension in overloaded muscles of the back, neck or lower back, restoring mobility to an area; given with your doctor's recommendations taken into account.
- Sports massage — preparing muscles for load and working on them after training or heavy physical work.
- Recovery massage — helps you recover after intense exertion or prolonged tension; within a rehabilitation program it is given in coordination with the physical therapist.
- Vacuum cupping massage — work with vacuum cups on the soft tissue of the back and limbs; it has contraindications of its own, so it is worth telling us about your health before the session.
Massage has contraindications: a raised temperature, acute inflammation, broken skin or a skin condition in the area to be worked on, thrombosis and some other conditions. If you have a chronic illness, are pregnant or have recently had surgery, clear the session with your doctor first. More about contraindications and how a session goes is on the massage page.
Sessions take place at the Rehab Place office: 28 Pavlokichkaska St., Zaporizhzhia, Mon–Fri 09:00–19:00, Saturday by prior appointment. The cost depends on the type and length of the session — ask by phone on +380 97 824 48 01 or leave a request below.

Working alongside the physical therapist
If massage is needed as part of recovery after an injury or surgery, the physical therapist runs the programme, and massage sessions are built into it at the stage when the tissue is ready for them, as agreed with your doctor.
